Supporting schools to foster resilience
The Inspire Foundation helps young lead happier lives through our online resource, ReachOut.com. However, we also need to support members of the community, such as teachers, to help them understand the mental health issues impacting on the young people they work with. That’s why we created a network of teachers who care about the mental health and wellbeing of their students.
As teachers play a key role in guiding, informing and supporting young people through their adolescent years we developed and launched the ReachOut Teachers Network in 2007. This is a close network of teachers who care about the mental health and wellbeing of their students.
The ReachOut Teachers Network provides teachers with:
- Free access to professional development;
- Training and curriculum teaching resources on youth mental health as well as a range of other issues that may impact on the wellbeing of young people; and
- Free membership to a network of teachers who are committed to ensuring that their school is a happy place that promotes the wellbeing of all students.
The online resources available can be used to enhance the effectiveness of mental health promotion and education programs delivered in school settings.
A great testament to the importance of the ReachOut Teachers Network is hearing from Australian high school teachers on what they feel is the greatest benefit gained from the Teachers Network:
“The greatest benefit is an awareness of the resources available for young people and being able to be more connected with issues they face.”
“It helps to remind me that student welfare is an important part of the job.”
