Youth Action Project
Empowering young people to take action on issues that matter to them
The Youth Action Project reaches out to young people who may be at risk or who are currently experiencing social, economic or cultural marginalisation. This projects empowers them to become actively involved in and connected to their communities.
The Project uses an action-based research approach that incorporates research, workshops and online strategies. Extensive consultation and ongoing participation by project stakeholders including young people and partner youth services informs the development of project strategies, models and resources.
At face-to-face Youth Action workshops young people identify issues that are important to them and explore their values, beliefs and attitudes around taking action. They brainstorm strategies and formulate action plans to implement over a 6-8 week long ‘action challenge’. During this time they also document their experiences of taking action on ActNow.com.au via stories, profiles and multimedia pieces, resulting in greater diversity and relevance of website content.
The aim of this approach is to increase young people’s connectedness and civic engagement, allowing them to participate in activities and engage in issues that are affecting them.
